Our Program for Toddlers
Maria Montessori described the young child’s (0 – 6 years) unconscious creative state as, “The Absorbent Mind.” She compared the mind to a sponge because the child literally absorbs information from his environment. This quality allows the child to see the world using his five senses as tools. In the same way a 2 year old child absorbs his native language and reproduces it perfectly without ever being taught, the child in a Montessori environment is given the opportunity to have “hands on” experience with the world. The toddler is not interested in academic pursuits; what he is focused on is his world.
Discovering and exploring the world around them are toddler's main interests. At ARC-EN-CIEL Day Care and Montessori School, we encourage their sense of discovery by establishing a safe, colorful environment and program that includes a variety of materials and educational toys to help them develop naturally, individually, and happily.
At this age, toddlers start expressing their thoughts and building their character. At ARC-EN-CIEL Day Care and Montessori School, the four main areas of Practical Life, Sensorial, Language and Mathematics are strongly defined and present to guide your children toward the work they choose.
Reading, singing, dancing, water play, climbing, and cooking are experiences that help the toddlers in their language skills and their social life. They are also developing a sense of independence which is important in fostering their social development. For that purpose, ARC-EN-CIEL Day Care and Montessori School introduces our toddlers to self-directed activities that include drawing, painting and individual play to help them develop their creativity.
Plenty of fun is the basis of teaching toddlers. Their development will be based on their own curiosity and readiness. To help you follow this important stage in your child's life, which is crossing the bridge to preschool, we provide you with reports which include information about your child's activities, care and progress.
